Jay Bottle Thompson came back from Hawaii with this 5’8 that he shaped and was enjoying in the smaller surf. I had a look at it and could see some similar qualities in it as my DTS model. Pulling the width of the tail into a tight round tail, really allows for that grip a powerful surfer like Bottle needs even in the small waves.
I played around with it a bit and worked through a few more versions with Bottle over the Snapper Pro. We were recently on a boat trip in the Mentawais and we completed the design. The small perfect waves over there were perfect for testing this model I even had a version of it for myself.

The low rocker through the nose makes it an easy wave catcher with heaps of speed, with a nice lift out of the tail for that top to bottom release. It has that typical speed of a single to double concave board and the little tail vee creates that smooth transition from rail to rail, this is essential in wider boards. I really like the tight tail it allows for that extra pressure you want to put on the board in small but perfect waves.
It is a great design for surfers looking to push their surfing in good quality small waves and can handle up to 5ft surf.
The original design of this model was a board Jay ‘Bottle’ Thompson shaped for the small days in Hawaii. He was really enjoying it and brought it back for Simon to clean up. The two of them have been refining it ever since, with a recent boat trip to Indo to complete the design.

Designed for small wave performance surfing, the design is quiet unique compared to the wide tailed small wave trend we are seeing in the water at the moment.

A small chunky wide and tight round tail, that runs off a similar concept to the DTS Simon makes. Low nose entry rocker with full tail lift creating a fast performance option for those smaller days. The deep concaves boost the speed with a slight vee in the tail, aiding with smooth rail to rail transitions. The wider plan shape pulling into the tight round tail allows for speed, paddle power and looseness, whilst maintaining that tight in the pocket performance surfing.

The Bottled Lightning is suitable for advanced to pro surfers in 1-5ft surf. If you are looking for a performance fish or step down alternative, this is a fast and loose option that can handle the power when you put it under pressure.
